CBTC can be applied in various aspects in the society but the one we are focusing on is education on how it can be used to reduce examination malpractice and also used as performance evaluation and also used in distance learning. Good execution of examination aimed at assessment and evaluation is very critical because problems arising from human-centered errors or technical difficulties may lead to questioning of the examination, and this reliability and efficiency of the distance education Tasi et al.
In Nigeria Education system that includes distance learning schools like National Open University (NOUN) which was Resuscitated in 2002 by President Olusegun Obasanjo has taken the lead in using CBT method of assessing student performance the school which currently has not less than seven schools and academic centers use CBT for conducting examination based on the fact that it was easy to administer and use by the students. Most especially is the fact that, the result of the examination can be viewed almost immediately after the examination Osang. Apart from NOUN some other universities in Nigeria makes use of CBTS for conducting examination like the Post Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME) for screening their students. Some Nigerian universities are almost fully or partially implementing the CBTS for assessing their students. These include:
- University of Ilorin, Ilorin
- National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)
- Federal University of Technology, Minna
- University of Nigeria, Nsukka
- University of Lagos, Lagos
- Covenant University, Ota (Private).
Covenant University is the only private university that uses CBTS to assess the student performance and also NOUN is the only Nigerian University that is fully implementing CBTS for assessing her students and is employed through the internet. Due to security reasons other universities listed above makes use of Intranet. Furthermore, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) which is the national matriculation examination body for admissions into Nigeria higher institutions of learning has adopted the use of CBTS for the conduct of its examination.
